 A Brief Introduction to Shanghai Highway Management Department |
|
Led by Shanghai Municipal Engineering Administration Bureau, Shanghai Highway Management Department is the executive body to specifically perform the functions of highway administration.
Authorized by legislation and entrusted by the municipal administrative department, Shanghai Highway Management Department is mainly responsible for the industry administration of all the highway in Shanghai city, highway construction, construction supervision & administration, highway administration, highway fees levy as well as maintenance management of the municipal highway.
Affiliated to Shanghai Highway Management Department are Shanghai Highway Maintenance Charge Levy Administration Office (in charge of the levy and management of highway maintenance fees as well as road toll for road construction with loan), Municipal Highway Administration and Highways Group (be responsible for the facility management, highways law enforcement and administration of the municipal highway), Freeway Administration Agency and Highways Group (take charge of the facility management, toll levy, highways law enforcement and administration of freeway), Highway Construction Office (in charge of the management of the construction projects for the municipal highway).
By the end of 2009, the total mileage of the highway in Shanghai has been 11671.452km. The highway density is up to 184.06km per 100 square kilometers. Among them, according to the highway technical grading, it can be classified as: 767.518km for freeway, 350.907km for first-class highway, 2922.132km for secondary highway, 2593.418km for tertiary highway, 5037.477km for fourth-class highway; according to the importance level, it is classified as: 613.835km for national highway, 964.593km for provincial highway, 2340.496km for county highway, 6769.881km for country highway, 982.647km for village highway.
